Langhorne Slim has not put out new material since Be Set Free was released way back in ’09. Until now, that is. His new album, The Way We Move, will hit the stores on June 5th. Our first taste is the titletrack, and I am happy to say that it does not only meet expectations – it exceeds them. The track is passionate, catchy and just a damn good listen. Check it out below.
Explosions In The Sky have released a gorgeous and emotional new video for their track, “Postcard from 1952.” The video is a period piece (the fifties, of course); their slow-building guitars flawlessly complement a series of beautifully-shot, slow-motion images of some of life’s most important milestones such as a baby’s first steps, Christmas mornings or a couple’s first kiss. The whole thing is damn near perfect. If the video reminds you of The Tree of Life, it’s probably because Peter Simonite co-directed it, alongside Annie Gunn. Watch via The Huffington Post.

Passion Pit is gearing up for the release of their long-awaited sophomore album, Gossamer, due out on July 24th via Columbia Records. The new album’s first single, titled “Take a Walk” features all the energetic beats and synth hooks that we fell in love with since their debut album, Manners. Check it out below.

Goth-pop quartet, Dum Dum Girls, just unveiled a new video for their exquisite track, “Coming Down“, taken from their latest LP, Only In Dreams, out now via SubPop. In the black-and-white video, we see frontwoman Dee Dee looking straight at the camera while a bunch of people tear and cut off her clothes with scissors. Malia James directs. Watch below.
Spirit Family Reunion is by no means a new band (they’ve been around for over three years now), but if you don’t know them already, then this post is for you. Judging from their raucous and dusty bluegrass-y sound, you wouldn’t believe they hail from Brooklyn – this kind of music belongs in Southern barn dances, not the cold streets of New York. Furthermore, their music recalls some of the greats like Woody Guthrie and Dylan and The Band – the fact that they have managed to reclaim and revive that old-timey sound and transform their music into something that simultaneously feels old and new is nothing short of impressive. The song’s subject matter – not surprisingly – includes God, the Devil, whisky and lost love, so they haven’t strayed too far from their genre lyrics-wise; however, while still keeping that country charm intact, they’ve infused it with a fresh and modern twist. But best of all, you can tell they are just damn happy to be playing, and that authenticity is contagious for the listener.
This music is meant to be danced and sung along to; I assure you, you’ll find yourself clapping, foot-stomping, a-hootin’ and a-hollerin’ to their music soon enough. Nick Panken’s raspy vocals have a swagger and a wise-beyond-his-years quality that instantly commands attention, as the rest of the spirited bunch relentlessly goes on about fiddlin’ n’ pickin’. You’d be wise not to dismiss them as yet another acoustic-driven, rootsy tribute act. These guys are the real deal. It’s as if they’ve left their sound marinating for a few generations, and just now they’re ready to crack open the mason jar and let the world sample the rich-ass molasses aroma of their sound. Delta Spirit‘s new video for their song “California” follows a pair of 21st-century punks, as they spend their days and nights drinking, smoking and just aimlessly misbehaving on a warm summer day – until the next morning, when they go back home and wash all that teen angst away. Kind of makes me want to be a teenager again.
The song is the lead single from their new self-titled album which was released earlier this month; you can stream it in full here. Watch the video below.

Earlier today, Sigur Rós confirmed details regarding the release of their upcoming LP, Valtari – their first in four years. These details include a May 28th release and a seven-song tracklist. The band described the album’s sound using adjectives like “ambient”, “floaty”, “minimal” and “introverted”, which is really not helpful at all since that’s exactly the kind of music we’d expect from them. Also, the album’s title translates to “steamroller”, frontman Jónsi explains: “the music kind of just rolls over you” but “in a good way.” They’ve released the album’s first cut, “Ekki Múkk” – a track that proves that Sigur Rós are the best at making the kind of nostalgic music that evokes childhood memories as you remember them – muted and in slow motion, as captured by a home video. It has been almost two years since the band released their sunny debut album, Crazy For You, and now we finally have a follow-up. Best Coast released today the title track for their upcoming LP, The Only Place, set for a May 15 release. Frontwoman Bethany Cosentino described the single as a “love song to California“, and sure enough, the track features Cosentino asking listeners: “Why would you live anywhere else?” Listen and download the song for free below.

Here’s a radio rip from Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros’ lead single, “Man On Fire”, taken from their upcoming sophomore album, Here, which will be out on May 29th via Community Music/Vagrant. In addition to this, they also have a second album already in the works, which will be released sometime in late 2012. Lead singer, Alex Ebert explained that while recording Here, they realized they had way too much material for just one album. He stated: “Being four years since our last album, the writing explored a wide variety of subject and sound, as it turned out we had a lot to say. Instead of putting it out all at once, we found that two different albums seemed to be forming. Alone these albums are albums. Together these albums express a varying and so relatively living portrait of our lives.” This is very, very good news. Listen to the track below.

Lana del Rey has unveiled a beautifully shot, black-and-white new video for “Blue Jeans.” Once again, she’s all over the tattooed guy (actor Bradley Soileau) from her Born To Die video, except now they’re just playing in a swimming pool. So I guess it means this is the prequel for her previous, more dramatic video, showing the couple’s happier days… you know, before she died and shit went up in flames. Watch below.
